Traditional dance
Dance is an integral part of Polynesian culture. In Mangareva, inhabitants have managed to preserve a dance that is found nowhere else: the pe'i, a unique cultural work, whose name means stamping feet . As a real musical comedy, it tells a story inspired by the myths and legends of Mangareva, where each dancer has a well-defined role: princess, God of the Sea ... As for the costumes, they are made from leaves of auti (cordyline), a widespread plant in Polynesia; it takes about sixty to make a skirt.
