Located in the Mosquitia region, in the North-East of Honduras, the Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest protected area in the country. In a part of this reserve, in the Mosquitia rainforest, along the Patuca River, the Tawahkas Indians live. With less than 1000 people, they constitute the smallest indigenous group in Honduras.
