The Iluerainma salty source
7
0
In central West Papua, the Baliem Valley spreads over more than 60 kilometers long and about 20 kilometers wide. It mainly shelters Papuans of the Dani tribe. In these mountains with fertile soil salty sources can be found. Under the men's protection, the Dani women collect this salt using banana trunks cut into strips that they dip into this sacred source. This water provides the iodine supplements that Dani tribes lack and prevents diseases linked to mineral deficiencies.
