In Copan, as in the other Maya cities, temples were built on top of the other through generations. The Honduran archaeologist Ricardo Agurcia discovered the Rosalila Temple, a remarkably preserved 5th-century polychrome temple when he drilled a tunnel through one of the pyramidal structures of the Acropolis. This temple is the tomb of the founder of the Copan dynasty, Kinich Yax Kuk Mo.
