A former pirate landmark, Jeannette Kawas National Park covers more than 80,000 hectares along the Honduran northern coast. It has up to 14 different ecosystems such as freshwater wetlands, mangroves, sandy beaches bordered by tropical rainforest extending up to 900 meters (2,952 ft) above sea level. In this protected park, there are up to 345 species of native or migrating birds.
