Patuca River

The Rio Patuca is the second largest river in Central America. It crosses the Río Plátano Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Along its banks, in the heart of the Mosquitia live the Tawahkas and Miskitos Indians.
For these two communities, the Patuca River is their main road: their only communication route in this tropical forest. It also represents an important food resource for these two populations of fishermen.
