Newborns at the research centre!
4
0
The first new-borns from the Conservation and Research Center are here, maybe a bit early, but in good health!
This center is a temporary refuge for wild Hermann’s tortoises collected before or during development projects that may have an impact on their natural habitat. The animals’ arrival is decided on a case-by-case basis.
It also allows to collect animals with a wild origin seized by the State services from individuals , especially when the tortoises are picked up from nature.
In their enclosures, males and females are separated. The sperm retention of female tortoises allows female tortoises to lay eggs even in the absence of males in their enclosure.
