Mule driver, a disappearing profession
4
0
For the past 40 years, Jean-Paul Geronimi roams the steep paths of the small region of the Niolu with his mules. His mission is to bring supplies to the Ciuttulu di mori shelter, on GR20, (the great hiking path 20), at 6,500 feet (2,000 meters) of altitude. Mules are the result of mating between a mare and a donkey. Stronger than horses, they can carry up to a fifth of their weight. Although common in Corsica for a long time, mules have been outreached by the advent of mass motorisation. Jean-Paul Geronimi is one of the last mule drivers in Corsica.
