Con la expansión de Bangkok y las mejoras en el transporte terrestre, la gran mayoría de estos mercados flotantes fueron desapareciendo o, en el mejor de los casos, se trasladaron a tierra firme. Sin embargo, unos pocos perviven en la actualidad. El más conocido y espectacular es el mercado flotante de Damnoen Saduak, ubicado a 100km al suroeste de Bangkok.
