Since 2014, the waters of the Indonesian archipelago represents the largest marine conservation of the Manta ray in the world. The sanctuary covers nearly over 6 million square kilometers around the Indonesian coastline and, is composed of more than 17,000 islands.
It is one of the rare places where the two giant ray species, the Oceanic Manta ray and, the Reef Manta ray, meet. With their huge fins, they have a vertiginous wingspan, 7 m for the first and 3.5 m for the second.
