The Corsican shoreline spreads over 620 miles (1000 km). It is constituted by two main geomorphic features. The rocky shoreline represents about 90% of the linear coast. It is mainly composed of cliffs. Some shelter sandy beaches, others open directly onto large gulfs. A large sandy expense, the Eastern Plain, represents the remaining 10% of the shoreline. It extends continuously over about 60 miles (100 km) between Solenzara in South Corsica and Bastia in Upper Corsica.
