The 700 wrecks Island
The Corsican coastlines are filled with more than 700 wrecks, the oldest dating back to the first century after Christ. They sunk between 62 feet (19 meters) and around 165 feet (50 meters) deep. Obviously, there are ships, but quite a lot of airplanes too. The most famous plane is the American bomber B17 which lies at 92 feet (28 meters) deep, at the foot of the Citadel of Calvi. Over time, these metal graveyards are home to marine flora and fauna and efficient protection against trawling.
