Located in the Honduran rainforest, 8 miles (12 km) from the Guatemalan border, Copan is one of the major sites of the Mayan civilization. Classified today as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it distinguishes itself by the richness of its sculptures and the size of its monuments. The Copán Ball court, is the second largest land in Central America, after the Chichen Itza, and the longest text ever known of Mayan civilization is engraved upon the “petroglyphs stairs”.
