Taro is one of the oldest domesticated crops in the world. Originating in Asia, it is the traditional staple food in French Polynesia. This tuber is even considered as the king of the roots. Among all the ways of cooking it, the oldest is the fermented dough, called popoi. The taro has to be crushed and wrapped afterwards in banana leaves.
