To the north-east of the island of Beauty, Balagne, also known as Le Jardin de Corse, is a region set in the mountains and open to the sea. In the distance, one can see the snow-covered mountains of Monte Grossu. Calvi, a Genoese citadel, is the capital. Facing the sea, the city has long been vulnerable to all invaders. Today, the city still bears traces of this period: from the top of the balconies, the Balanins always have a view of the sea and the wild landscapes.
