The Corsican horse has been living in Corsica for approximately 2,500 years. It is the result of a crossbreed between Indo-European, Barb, and Arabian horses. Considered as a noble and free animal, unlike beasts of burden, Corsicans refer to it as “paganacce”, meaning “pagan” or “rebel”. With the advent of motorized vehicles, numerous horse breeders released their animals in the mountains. To this day, wild horse herds can be seen in certain areas of the island.
