Brown pelicans, the fishermen's companions

In Honduras, the Brown Pelicans are part of the coastline landscape. These American seabirds spend most of their time fishing by the coast. They need 2 kg (5 lb) of food per day. Thanks to their sharp eye, these stocky animals can spot a school of fish as they fly up to 20 m (66 ft) high over the ocean. They steeply dive head-first and come up with the gular pouch full of water and food. This “dip net” can hold up to 10 liters of water! When they are not fishing, they are waiting for the return of the fishing boats to pinch some catch. Or they contort themselves and lengthily polish their plumage with the protective balm produced by their oil gland.
