A Minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) with her calf observed by Moorea Ocean Adventures in a August 2019. It is part of the 24 species of cetaceans listed in French Polynesia. It can be recognized thank to its thin pectoral fins with a white patch going up to its back. White spots can also be seen on the flanks and on the back. This species is found in all Southern Hemisphere oceans, from tropical areas to Antarctica. Few observations are made, and there is still a lot to be discovered about this species: breeding and behaviors are not well known.
