An ice thickness of 5.9 in (15cm) thick on the sea is enough to support the weight of a man and his load. In summer, it is the meltdown in the Arctic: the sea ice melts and pieces of ice break off and drift according to marine currents and winds. Polar bears and seals follow these ice blocks movements waiting for the shore-fast ice to form again.
