The young gulls are nicknamed 'grisards' because of their plumage mixing brown, beige, gray and white. Their beaks are black and they all look alike, regardless of their species. They gradually acquire their full adult plumage - predominantly white with localized gray and black - after two to four years, at their sexual maturity.
