Young birds with varying behavior

The behavior of grisards - young gulls with a spotted plumage - varies from one species to another. Some are precocial and leave the nest shortly after hatching, while others are altricial and occupy the nest built by both parents for several weeks. However, the juveniles that leave the nest only a few days after hatching do not know how to fly until they are about six weeks. In the meantime, these grisards remain within a dispersal radius of 328 to 656 ft (100 to 200 m) from the parental nest.
