The Yellow-billed Hornbill feeds mainly on the ground where it pecks most of its food but it also climbs in the trees to eat fruits, and to locate preys on the ground. It serves as a sentinel to the dwarf mongoose that it warns by its cries of alarm in case of proximity of a predator. In return, it captures the insects fleeing the mongoose.
