Wrecks bearing witness to the history of the port of Antibes

Beyond the antique quays discovered in the Saint-Roch cove of Port Vauban in Antibes, the wrecks found bear witness to the life of the port throughout history. Studies have revealed the presence of Etruscan, Massaliote, Rhodian, Italic, Iberian, Byzantine but also from the Lower Empire and the 17th and 18th centuries remains. In 1680, when the site was drained for the construction of the old port, two antique galleys were found and we also know of the 4th century wreck located on the site of the current harbor master's office.
