A true artistic and technical feat, Mont-Saint-Michel stands in the heart of an immense bay, home to the highest tides in Europe. The glories of Normandy, the Mont and its bay have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1979, for their outstanding universal value. Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay are classified as a “natural and cultural site”, one of the three categories defined by UNESCO. The architectural value but also the religious and cultural dimension of the sites are taken into account by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
