Wooden statue of Sainte Odile

The Basilica of Mont Sainte-Odile conceals many artistic treasures. Among them stands a statue of the patroness saint of Alsace. She holds an open bible decorated with two eyes. They recall the miracle which made her recover her sight during her baptism. This statue of Sainte Odile is polychromatic painted wood, and the details of her features and clothes are finely executed. It dates from 1889 and probably comes from the Mayer Christian Arts Studio in Munich.
