Over 60% of the 20.5 miles (33 km) of slopes of the Mont-Dore ski area – located on the Northern slope of the Sancy massif – are equipped with snow cannons to complement the resort’s snow cover. The ski area is located at an altitude of 3,937-6,069 feet (1,200 to 1 850 metres). The snow cover of the massif allows an annual average of 110 days of opening of the resort but, in winter, only one out of two tourists picks the Mont-Dore slopes to go skiing, and over a whole year, the 220,000 skiers only represent a fifth of the tourists coming to this multi-faceted spa resort.
