Wine-growing for centuries

At the foot of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle lies the village of Orschwiller, on the Wine Route. This road already existed at the time of the Celts and Romans, who also grew vines. In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the same routes were traveled to transport salt, wine, and silver that served to mint money. Today, wine-growing is still the main activity of the villages of the Alsace plain, monitored by the imposing ramparts of the Haut-Koenigsbourg from which the snowy summits of the Alps are visible on a clear day.
