White rhino marking his territory
18
0
During one of our walking safaris we tracked this beautiful white rhino bull and got to this close encounter. We silently observed how this bull was going around his territory. If you look closely you will see a cloud of urine being sprayed, one of the ways rhinos mark the boundaries of their territory. Another way of marking is by walking through their own dung so that wherever they go their scent is left on the ground. The white rhino is a grazer and can be seen in grasslands. Most of world’s black and white rhinos live in South Africa but poaching threatens their existence. We wrote an in-depth article about this, as well as how to spot them on your safaris and how to tell a white rhino apart from a black one (no it’s not by looking at the colour of their skin!).
