White markings and bay dress

Generally bay in color, the English Thoroughbred may present moderately sized white markings located on its head and/or legs. White markings on the head are permanent individual characteristics that help identify individuals. They are composed of white hairs implanted on a zone of pink skin. The white markings on the forehead that do not descend below the line of the eyes are called in-head, while the lists of variable length are located on the muzzle of the horse and therefore below the line of its eyes. The markings on the nostrils, lips, or chin are known as grizzled and ladres.
