White lion, a mutation of Panthera leo krugeri
1
0
The white lion is not a distinct subspecies. It is a lion, Panthera leo species, and more specifically from the subspecies Panthera leo krugeri, the Transvaal lion, from southeastern South Africa.
A mutation of a recessive gene within this subspecies is responsible for this leucism, and for the white color of the white lions.
