When a species disappears, it is thought to be extinct. But sometimes, several years or centuries after this missing, an individual or a group of individuals of this species reappears. This phenomenon is called a Lazarus taxon. This denomination was given in reference to the character of Lazarus, resuscitated by Jesus in the New Testament.
