With 621mi (1000km) of very different coastlines to the east and to the west, Corsica holds nearly a fifth of the metropolitan French littoral. Its western coast, which locally leaves little room for man, is mostly rocky, very rugged and cut by deep gulfs. In addition to this vigorous relief, the absence of continental shelf makes it possible to rapidly reach great maritime depths.
