If the coastal areas of Honduras are crossed by many rivers whose coves can widen and form small reservoirs, especially around the Gulf of Fonseca, the country has few lakes. That of Yojoa is the only natural lake in the territory, it measures approximately 9.9mi (16km) long by 4.9mi (8km) wide for a depth of 59 to 82ft (18 to 25m) depending on the season.
