Water point and living space
In the middle of the day, the rhinos protect themselves from heat and sun by staying in the shade. They move to drink at cooler hours, usually using the same paths at the same times. They can travel up to 18.6 miles (30km) between their feeding place and the water point. They drink daily if they can, but are able to do without drinking for three or four days in the dry season. Mothers teach small ones the water points and edible plants of their extensive living space.
