Walrus's rear flippers can reach a quarter of the length of its body while its posterior fins are shorters. They are mainly used for land travel ; the walrus swims by waving his body. Except on the flippers, walrus skin is covered with short, coarse hair that gets sparser in adult males, particularly around the neck and chest.
