Walrus colonies divide into small groups to feed, diving to depths of up to 80 meters for about thirty minutes at a time, searching for mollusks, crustaceans, and small fishes: they can gulp up to 27 kg per day. They use their highly sensitive whiskers to locate food, which it then excavates using their foreflippers to move the sand and by squirting jets of water from their mouth.
