Vouglans, a dam lake

0
Lake Vouglans is a dam lake located on the first plateau of the Jura massif at an altitude of 1,407 feet (429 m) between Orgelet and Moirans-en-Montagne in the Jura department. Created to meet the energy needs of the region and to assuage the impetuous character of the Ain river, it was put in water in 1968. Its area of 9.9 square miles (16km2) (21.7 miles / 35 km long and 1,476 feet / 450 m wide on average) as well as its volume of 605 million m³ of water, make it the third largest artificial water reservoir in France after the lakes of Serre-Ponçon and Sainte-Croix in the South region. Its banks are immediately dominated by the Ain plateau at more than 328 feet (100 meters) of vertical drop.
