Rurutu is a twenty square miles (32.3 km2) volcanic island in the Austral archipelago, in French Polynesia. It is located 93 miles (150 km) east of Rimatara, its nearest neighbor, and 355 miles (572 km) south of Tahiti. Its three peaks - Manureva its culminating point (1,263 feet / 385 m), Taatio'e and Erai - result from the successive geological movements it has undergone.
