To the difficulties of reproduction on loose and poor in nutrients and oxygen soils, many species of mangrove trees have provided the solution of viviparity, i.e the germination and development of the seed in the fruit while it is still clinging to the mother plant. This is the case of the rhizophores whose seeds do not germinate in the ground but on the trees until their propagules - shown by the man in the photo - come off and fall into the mangrove.
