The village of Lumio, which means light in Corsica, overlooks the bay of Calvi. It is home to several churches and chapels. In the center, between the narrow streets, stands the baroque church Santa Maria built in the early 19th century. Its impressive 36 m (118 ft) high belfry was erected in 1878, more than 50 years after the construction of the main building.
