A patrician villa and a Provençal farmhouse

Villa Rayolet stands out from the vegetation of the Domaine du Rayol. Occupied from 1925 by the Courmes family, it reflects their desire to showcase a more Provençal and sober style than the other buildings on the estate. It also reminded its occupants of their temporary installation awaiting the construction of a large patrician villa. The couple lived in the west wing of the farm it had built on its domain upon its arrival, carried by an idealized vision of rural life inspired by the hamlet of Queen Marie-Antoinette in Versailles. With its dovecote, henhouse, hutches, stable, pigsty, vegetable garden, and terraced orchard, the farm brought the estate close to the self-sufficient economic logic of Provençal country houses or the ancient Roman holiday resorts.
