La célèbre Victoire porte le nom de l’île grecque de Samothrace en mer Egée, où elle a été découverte en 1863 par Charles Champoiseau. La statue est sublime mais brisée en 110 morceaux et incomplète, sans tête ni bras.
Cette statue représente la déesse de la victoire qui vient se poser sur un navire vainqueur (elle est posée sur une proue de bateau).
