The templates are used to shape the mould for the core and then the mould for the false bell. Both are made of wood, sometimes brass, and are now laser-cut to the requested model. They are fixed on a pin which allows the worker to patiently spread the mixture of clay, horse dung, and fibres. Medieval casters were already using templates. At Cornille-Havard, they have been modelled on computer for the past 30 years – which was a first at the time – providing them with incomparable precision.
