Sled dogs are very high level athletes able to put in sustained efforts in extreme weather conditions for days at a time. Their diet must therefore be adapted in terms of the calories absorbed (up to 10,000 per day for the dogs participating in the most demanding races) and the number of meals. As with marathon runners, their most frequent injuries are sprains and tendonitis but also cuts, abrasions and frostbites of their pads due to ice.
