Baume-les-Messieurs is a classified site which is part of the Natura 2000 zone due to the 'reculées' (blind valleys) of the Haute Seille. These 'reculées' are divided into three distinct entities forming a collapsed valley in 'glove fingers' comprising the Dard valley (which ends with the Cirque of Baume-les-Messieurs), the Seille valley and the Mardasson valley. Strongly digitized, they are extended to the south by the valleys of Longe Bief and Saint-Aldegrin and, to the east, by that of Juisse.
