The female vervet gives birth to a single baby, weighing around 12 oz. (350 g), after a gestation of five months. It clings to its mother's underside almost immediately; she holds it with one of her arms. From five to six weeks old, it climbs on her back, clinging to her with all its limbs. At three months, still on her back, it is able to ride upright. At four months, it starts playing with other juveniles.
