Verreaux Eagle Owl

Named after the French conservationist Jules Verreaux, the VerreauxeEagle owl 🦉 (also known as the giant eagle owl) is Africa’s largest owl! With a height of 66 centimetres and a wingspan up to 1.64 meters, this owl is considered an avian apex-predator. The territorial owl has a preference for hedgehogs which they ambush, kill and then skin before eating but the eagle owl eats any type of small mammal and even insects and birds. Their call is one of the deepest bird calls on earth and resembles the call of a leopard! When after taking this photograph we moved on in search for a Pel fishing owl we could hear this Verreaux eagle owl in the distance and I really thought I heard a leopard. Quite interesting!
