The Serre-Ponçon water reserve in the Hautes-Alpes department allows the multi-use management of the water from the Durance. It serves for channeling the river's flow and preventing the risk of flooding, water supplying of the whole region, producing energy, and finally nautical and tourist activities. A true water tower for Provence, the Serre-Ponçon reservoir provides the resources necessary for agriculture and the supply of drinking water to the Southern Region and the various canals that run through it.
