In the south-african Veld, several areas are distinguished : in the North, a Veld of almost tropical aspect where the arborescent vegetation is quite rich and not only located around the oases of the water points ; in the center, a bushy Veld or bush looking like a steppe covered with pastures strewn with thorny shrubs of mimosa, acacia and euphorbia ; in the South, the upper Veld, a dry region from which trees have disappeared and where a very sparse vegetation grows in tufts on a stony soil.
