On the ridge lines and the top of the slopes of Raivavae, in the Austral Archipelago, grow improving species, likely to later serve as shading to coffee trees, quite numerous on the island. The coral and scree soils of the lower part of Raivavae are favorable to 'miro', a valuable wood that is found there.
